HUMIDOR
TIPS

-
If
the humidifier is not attached to the inner lid, remove the protective
tape on the back of the adhesive mounting strip and apply firmly with even
pressure for several seconds.
-
Slowly
apply a few drops of Mr. Moisture to the openings in the front and back
of the humidifying unit allowing the liquid to penetrate the foam.
-
Place
the humidifying unit face down in a dish of distilled water.
-
Let
the unit sit in the water for about 20 minutes or until it is thoroughly
saturated.
-
Gently
shake any excess water from the unit and then wipe it dry.
-
At
this time you may install the humidifier onto the lid of the humidor.
-
Initially
your humidor will need more moisture than it will as it becomes "seasoned."
So that the Spanish Cedar lining of the humidor will not fight with your
prized cigars for moisture, place a shot glass of distilled water in the
humidor. This will help the wood absorb all the moisture it can handle
and provide a nice tropical atmosphere for your cigars. It is best to use
the shot glass method for extra moisture introduction without any cigars
in the box.
-
If
you have an older humidor that is currently being used to keep cigars and
the cigars have dried out from improper moisturizing techniques, you may
try bringing them back to life with the shot glass method. Only put a 16th
of an inch of water in the glass and place it as far away as possible from
the cigars. Add more water to the glass after the water has been totally
absorbed. Very slow introduction of moisture will hopefully prevent your
cigars from absorbing too much moisture too quickly, thus splitting the
delicate and overly dry wrappers.
-
Due
to the porous nature of Spanish Cedar it is recommended that you add Mr.
Moisture weekly for the first month.
-
Once
completed, you may begin stocking and preserving your important treasure
of premium cigars from The Westminster Cigar Company. Optimum Humidity
level is 72% - 74%. Temperature 68 to 74 degrees.
For
Best Results
-
Periodically
rotate your cigars (once a month).
-
Keep
your humidor away from direct sunlight, direct heat and direct spotlighting.
-
In
order to maintain a proper humidity, open your humidor as infrequently
as possible.
-
If
so desired, the exterior of your humidor may be cleaned with a soft damp
cloth. You may use a non-abrasive, non-oil based furniture polish, however,
spray the polish onto a cloth, then wipe the exterior of the humidor clean.
-
To
preserve your cigars at a slightly dryer humidity level, simply moisten
your humidifier less frequently or release humidity by opening the lid
of the box for a period of 30 - 60 minutes.
-
To
preserve your cigars at a damper humidity level simply regenerate your
humidifier with distilled water more frequently.
-
After
several years of use, you may wish to lightly sand the cedar on the inside
of your humidor (in a straight motion, following the grain of the wood)
with fine grit sandpaper to revitalize its original aroma.
Instructions
For Adjusting Your Analog Hygrometer
In
order to rely on an accurate hygrometer reading, it may be necessary to
adjust the gauge at least once a year. Remove the hygrometer from the lid,
peel back any velcro or mounting device which may be blocking the adjustment
screw on the back. Wrap the hygrometer in a warm damp cloth for a period
of 45 minutes. The instrument should provide a reading of approximately
95% humidity. If this is not the case, readjust the instrument on the back
with a small screwdriver.
